About this piece

An original Edward Curtis photogravure for sale, “A Feast Day at Acoma” depicts a gathering at Acoma Pueblo, the mesa-top “Sky City” of New Mexico, during one of its feast days, a subject from Curtis’s series The North American Indian. Curtis captures both the crowd and the dramatic setting with his characteristic atmospheric light, printed as a hand-pulled impression from the original copper plates rather than a modern reproduction. The warm tonal depth and fine detail are the hallmark of an authentic Curtis photogravure. In a horizontal 11” x 15” format, the image reads as both a scene and a landscape. Because it comes from one of only four known volumes struck from Curtis’s original plates, this is a genuine collector’s photogravure, an Edward Curtis original print valued as fine art photography and as a record of feast-day life at one of the oldest pueblos in America.
